About Pat

Author. Columnist. Nevadan. Lifelong Storyteller.

Born in Carson City and raised along the shores of Lake Tahoe, Pat Hickey is a lifelong Nevadan whose experiences have taken him from journalism and public service to authorship and storytelling.

A former Nevada state assemblyman, journalist, and longtime columnist for the Reno Gazette Journal, Pat has spent decades sharing perspectives on politics, education, community, and the people who make Nevada unique. His popular column, Memo from the Middle, reflected his belief in thoughtful dialogue and finding common ground, even when opinions differ.

Today, Pat continues to write and share stories through his books and personal writings, exploring everything from politics and philosophy to spirituality, family, and life’s unexpected lessons. Whether reflecting on his own experiences or telling the stories of others, he brings curiosity, perspective, and a lifelong appreciation for the written word.
